C6180 Printer not found via Wireless

C6180 Printer not found via Wireless

I have a Mac and a PC (XP) connected to my C6180 through wireless router. I am trying to add my laptop. I downloaded and installed the driver, but it is not able to find the printer. I can connect to the printer via USB, but not wireless. All other computers are still connected and working. Thoughts?

DW,

You should only have one installation of the 6180 installed at one time. Id bet that since you are working through USB that you have a USB installation at the moment. Try unistalling your software and reinstalling with a network option.

Post back and let us know if it works.

Thanks!

Thanks very much for the quick response. I did try exactly what you suggested and it still did not work. I ensured that I had the standard TCP stack installed. I am going to try to do this on another system and see if I have the same issue. The other two systems that are workng were installed a while ago. I checked the properties on one of the systems that is working (connecting to the printer via wireless) and they are identical to what I had on this laptop when I tried to get it to work.

DW,

Here are some troubleshooting steps from HP:

Go through the steps from beginning to end and see if you can resolve the issue on your own.

Thanks John. I was able to reinstall the driver and get it to work with both my desktop and now my laptop. I cannot seem to get it to print from my laptop if I am connected to my VPN for work. I have had this working before, so any thoughts you have on this, let me know. I did install the driver and connected to the printer with VPN off.

DW,

I have seen before at my company. If a user has chosen to install a network (wireless) version of the driver/software then they will not be able to print/scan while connected through VPN. For this reason we always recommend our users install the printers as a USB installation and not a network installation.

My understanding is that a VPN connection changes your IP and makes your computer believe its connected to a seperate network. You cant print to your printer because your computer is on a different network.

I have never been able to get network installs to work correctly through VPN so I dont know how you could troubleshoot this kind of a problem. Maybe you could look at installing the printer on the VPN network?
