Printing to Canon CLC1150 using ColorPass z40e broken in 10.6

Since upgrading to 10.6, I've been unable to print to our Canon CLC1150 utilizing the ColorPass z40e drivers. I understand that AppleTalk is no longer an option, but even when setting up as LP, nothing happens. Any clues I can use to get back to full functionality? It appears as if Canon has no intention of updating drivers, as the newest version is from 2004.

Hello Scott,

With the ColorPASS print controllers and LPD, you need to enter an exact queue name. These are the same names that you would have been using with AppleTalk, such as print, hold and direct.

So, create the printer queue again using LPD, but ensure you enter a queue name of print (or hold or direct depending on your requirement). You also need to ensure you enter the queue name in lower case. Do not use any capitals.

If this also does not work, you may need to add the model name to the queue name, such as print_z40e. From memory, and this is a distant memory because it has been ages since we had a working CLC in the office, the Config page from the ColorPASS will show you in the System section what name you need to use.

With regards to the printer driver, there was a Universal Binary (aka MacTel) driver released to support the Intel Mac's. Given this was in 2006, I think your driver is not this version and therefore will not work correctly with SL. So you may need to check with your Canon support to find a UB driver for the Z40e.

If there is no UB driver available for the Z40e, then you could print using Generic Postscript. This may not be ideal from a CM perspective but should be okay for proofing.
