horz. stepper motor locking up. clean & lubed machine. adjusted carrier cable. tride new motor.
with the motor out of the machine it will lock up on the return with a light amount of presser on gear checked fuses on power supplie. any other ideas.

Im not sure why but the 4040's I have dealt with have been very sensitive to carrier resisance ( Rails & bushing & pullys need to be totally free, maybe even loosining the carrier cable tension, check the cable pully/spindle shaft for gummyness & make sure card guide is NOT rubbing platen on return, adjust slightly away from platen & any other free movement tricks )

Its time to check for proper voltage at the power supply.  If OK there, head for the main board.
