Hi David,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. However, it seems that the printer needs repair. I would suggest you get the printer to a repair station, in order to get it repaired. If the repair cost is too high, it is better to get a new printer.
I understand that this answer may not be entirely to your liking, and I regret being the bearer of information that you really don’t want to hear. But it would be unfair to you and unprofessional of me were I to provide you with anything less than truthful and honest information.

I have followed instructions, some. Printer head was at the right, I moved it to the middle; was unable to raise print head---pried gently on it. replugged it. Still the same message.
     Understand, I am going to be 86 years old on friday, and am not quite as swift as I was 50 years ago. Hang with me. I can only stick with a problem for so long, then I say the hell with it, and lay down again. I will be around all day, and work on this. I hate to buy a new printer as this one has worked fine.

Please go to the link below and follow the instructions.

If the issue persists, please try the following.
- Machine off
- Switch on the machine while holding down the  “menu”button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in  “maintenance” mode.
- press 80
- press the “mono start” button several times until you see “purge: xxxx”
- press “2783” in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: “purge:0000”
- press the "stop" button.
- press “99” to exit the maintenance mode.
