I got one typing wrong letters, "a" gets you "/" "X" gets you "q" mess like this. Is there a language setting some where hidden kinda like the multi-strike setting for the ribbon? You know "code key + the "." key.  Thanks
Ronny

Ken is correct,  When the roller fails to make contact, PS is default (no connection)

Those 7040's have a bad reputation of the "pitch switch" going bad.  The roller in the switch goes bad, and you can't clean it, it must be replaced.

not that i know of, but to me, it sounds like you may have the keyboard in "PS" position. if you're a tech though and are familiar at all with t/w's, you've probably checked that already. if thats not the problem, you may have problems with bent spokes in printwheel, bad selection sensor, etc, etc.
good luck,
ray
