My Brother Printer MFC 9970CDW gives the error message: duplex printing disabled - close back cover.  I have closed the back cover many times.  Message returns next time I try to print two-sided.  It originally worked fine.

I'm sorry Ive got to get ready for a wedding at 4:00 p.m. followed by a reception.  It may be tomorrow before I get back to you.  Will need more time than I have right now.  Thanks so far.

It wouldn't be on the door itself, but on the machine.

I cant find any sensors on the door.

It looks like you are in the right area, the door itself does not hit it the tray I mentioned before does and can cause this error. There should be a similar sensor around the edges for the door itself. Look for that and see if it is stuck.

Ok there is a duplex sensor behind the rear cover, can you check and make sure it is not stuck?

Have you already cleaned the edges around the cover, removed the duplex tray, and reinserted then closed the cover? If you did was it the same error or did it change at all to something else?

Ok well hopefully you do not need a new part but if you do end up needing one the only way to get it working would be to replace that part. If you still want to continue can you tell me if the error gives a number or not? Can you also tell me if the error is showing on the printer itself, computer, or both?

Hello my name is  Freddy. I look forward to assisting and  am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem.
Before we start I need to make sure you are aware it is possible that you will need to replace a part in order to fix this.
