I have unistalled/reinstalled a dozen times with the same result. Getting message,
'' you may only have one installer running at a time''?
It is a Lexmark Z2300 series, it will not print [ just pretends to do so] on Windows 7, I have brought drivers up to date. At this moment every trace of this one has been removed ready for a new printer,  a bit drastic but seems to be the only way unless one of you miracle workers out there know's the answer

On the subject of Compatible ink cartridges............
We had an old Canon bubblejet printer that served all our needs for many years. I started using compatibles and didn't have a problem. Then the print started to blur on about every 10th line.
We bought another Canon and when the accompanying ink cartridges ran out they were replaced once again by compatibles.
This too developed a fault with the quality of the print. That one was discarded and next we tried a second hand Lexmark (Wouldn't you have thought that by now we'd have learned that something wasn't right with the inks ???)
Again print problems,a neighbour gave us another Lexmark that was unused but the ink had dried up, so again I purchased compatibles.
This one refuses to print at all and comes up with the message that no cartridges are installed.
By now it's cost more in useless cartridges than it would if we'd bought the proper ones in the first place.
I am going to Argos this morning to get a brand new Canon printer and will, in future, only purchase genuine inks.
BUT can anyone tell me......
Is it that the printer manufacturers are building into their printers something that rejects any other ink that hasn't come from them or are we just unfortunate that the ones we bought weren't suitable ????
They weren't all from the same supplier by the way.
A reply would be much appreciated
Thanks

Thank you all for your advice, Have spent another couple of hours on the blasted thing to no avail, in fact it will not speak to the computer at all now so have taken your good advice to heart and sent my OH to Tesco to buy a HP all in one for £29.00. Should have done it weeks ago. Oh the joys of using computers

I'm looking at buying a new printer. Always used HP. Nothing wrong with the one I've got now but realise after browsing the stores that it is getting a bit old and clunky!! I will still buy HP as I've never had any problems apart from the price of the ink!!

We've been using an old deskjet 990cxi from around 2002 and only in the last couple of weeks upgraded to an all in one Photosmart 5524 after about what must have been a year of thinking about it. The 990 lasted fantastically well, although the duplexer was the first thing to go. We always brought refilled cartridges from Pheonix direct who have brilliant service.

Refill the cartridges or use a CISS system:

Have you tried making sure the printer is disconnected from the computer when you're installing it?
Did you try to open the installer file more than once?
HP make really good printers.
