HP laserjet 2550n solenoid pad issue

Printer would only print yellow. from reading the threads, seems it was most likely the glue from the pad on the solenoid. downloaded the service manual and got to the solenoid but, murphy's law, that screw wouldn't budge and was eventually stripped. even got that 'easy out' tool but no luck.
so, without being able to remove the solenoid, tried to clean the glue with a skinny sponge and alcohol. then, cut off most of the fur on a velcro square and eased it into place. now, the lights won't even go on on the control panel next to each of the toner colors and therefore the carousel won't even move. just the orange error light. (do not have the HP toolbox since it doesn't work on windows 8).
any thoughts?

I never disassemble the printer to any extent for the repair. I access the solenoid through a hole next to it and do a laproscopic procedure I developed and scrape it and put a new piece of felt on it through the hole. What you probably did is not get a connector seated all the way down. Also, you have to be careful with the ribbon connectors. If you don't put them back in carefully, the metal ribbon contacts can peel back and cause connectivity issues. You can remedy that by straightening them out and very gingerly reinserting it into the connector.
