You will love this tip. Get Black Magic Engine Shine at the auto store, a pointy brush, 6 pack of suds-optional, Spray the hell out of it and let it sit for a while, lightly brush everything and re-spray as needed, now get the hottest water you can find and rinse it 2-3 times, let it drain, put it in front of a space heater and get it hot, top and bottom, this evaporites all of the water and let it sit overnight. Re-lube and adj. Your customers will say HOLY **CKING **IT when they see it, more beer money

Back in the day a student brought in one of those Smith Corona electrics, the cheap on with carriage shift (you old techs will know what I mean). He had taken it all apart, carriage off, the machine was in parts in a box.  I asked him what the was the problem before he took it all apart. The ribbon would not come up when I typed he said.  I looked over the machine and it was in stencil position! I told him the machine would cost more to fix than it was worth.  Did not tell him I would have fixed it free if he had not taken it apart.
