Any opinions on brother, print, copy & fax  all in one machines?

I have an MFC3420C. Currently (Today actually) it quit working. It is now about two and a half years old. It was initially difficult connecting it to my network, but got it done. Then for about the last six months every time I wanted to print I get an Error 41 message-unplug machine-Call Brother. So after unplugging the machine and plugging it back in it would spit out whatever I sent to it, then display the message again. Repeat Process. Then today it refused to even do that. I call Brother. They tell me to take it and have it serviced (it is of course out of warranty) at my expense. So I did some checking and found some really nasty forums online regarding Brother machines and the incessant problem with the Error 41 on most of the models it seems (of the MFC's at least). Now in my opinion, some of the stories I read were indeed ridiculous, I would be outraged if this had happened mere months after the purchase. But realistically, the machines are very low cost, mine did an completely acceptable job printing, faxing, copying and scanning. I spent about 150.00 on the machine, at that cost - nothing runs forever.

I always thought brother put out a good product, however in recent years their printers, scanners, and fax machines have become the most un-reliable equipment i've ever had the misfortune of using.
I would recommend you find another manufacturer to buy your equipment from.  I wouldn't buy a lexmark product either.
HP is my most reliable product manufacturer.

I suppose Brother is fine, but I for one like and recommend HP. They are inexpensive (mine cost $78+) and does all you say. It is called all in one.
Plus the have outstanding costumer/tech support, easy downloads. My model is psc1350 HP.

There are various HP products for home use that are multipurpose. I own a HP PSC 1410 that does the job of a printer, scanner & copier. There is a different brand that does the job of a printer, copier & fax. It's damn cheap. Visit www.hp.com for more details.
