Adding x64 Client Driver to x86 Windows SBS 2003

Post time: 2010-2-10 05:39:18 |Show all posts
Hi, I am trying to add the additional x64 drivers to our Windows 2003 SBS 32bit server using the additional driver method from the sharing tab in printer properties.

I have successfully pointed the server towards the printer driver .inf file but now it is asking for the Windows Server (x64 processor) disk and looking for a ntprint.inf file which i do not have.

Can anyone help or suggest a work around to this as i do not know where to go from here?
Regards,
Mark

Hi,
I am not in work until next week to look at the folder structure on the cd that i burnt but from what i can remember i downloaded the ntprint.inf file from the link that Miles placed in the thread earlier, this was burnt to the directory d:\adm64\ntprint.inf.
i then copied the contents of the amd64 folder from the file repository of a working machine as instructed by Alan and burnt this to the same cdunder the directoryd:\amd64\amd64\
The files have to be burnt to a cd rather than used from a memory stick or hard drive for some reason or windows 2003 sbs doesnt recognise them.
Hope this helps
Mark

I am in the same situation.
Could you share what files are needed and what folder structure you used to make it work?
Thanks!

Hi Alan
I found the files i needed in the filerepository directory on a client machine and proceeded to install the driver on the server one point to note is i had to burn the files to a cd with the same folder structure as they would have appeared on the windows server cd. Also i did have to change the group policy on the server to allow the driver to be installed as it wasnt logo tested with 2003sbs but that was no problem. Now i've got some pleased clients who can finally print from their new machines.
Thanks for your help.

since you needx64 drivers on the server, I will assume you have some x64 clients. Use the x64 pscript5.dll (and other files) from one of the client machines. The fileformat of the DVD in Vista and Windows 7 is not flat files so the other files are not available until you install the OS, you can't use the DVD. In Vista/Win7look in \windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\ntprint..... for ntprint.inf and associated components.

Thaks for the reply Miles.
I had to download your version of the ntprint.inf file  as i do not have a Windows Server 2003 64-bit CD.
The install gets so far and then requests PSCRIPT5.DLL from d:\amd64\amd64 and as i do not have the cd i cannont progress any further.
If you could help further that would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
Thanks for the post.
You can fix this issue with the following two methods:
Method 1. Copied ntprint.inf from different working server and tried to install the printer.
Method 2. Copied Amd64 folder in Windows Server 2003 64-bit CD to the C drive and pointed to c:\amd64\ntprint.inf
For your convenience, you could also download the ntprint.inf file from the following link:

Thanks,
