My Dell AIO A940 printer (bought new approximately 13 mos. ago) recently stopped printing the color black - no matter what theresolution, print quality, or type of paper. I have tried adjusting the settings and reinstalling the latest drivers from Dell (R56532.exe) to no avail. This started when the black ink cartridge was running low - first, any black text or images would appear pale - now, nothing. The print heads move, the paper is moved and ejected cleanly..... from all appearances and sounds, there is nothing wrong.....until you see the resulting blank page (not ANY trace of black ink appears). There are no error messages, so apparently I have reinstalled the cartidges and the drivers correctly. I am getting the same results even after installing a brand-new black cartridge. I have used the printer's built-in tools to align and clean the print heads, and have tried william_the_scot's advice of soaking the cartridge in 1/2" of hot water, but nothing has changed. Suggestions, anyone ?????????p.s. - I have removed the tape from the bottom of the new cartridge. Message Edited by jamjas on 07-25-2005 07:16 PM

FYI, I just replaced the black cartridge (even though the old one was still full) and now it works fine. Therefore, the previous discussion threads about the ink drying in the cartridges must be the cause of the problem. One person had suggested soaking the head of the cartridge in warm water. I will try that later, but for now, the problem is solved.

I am experiencing a similar problem. It started first with the color ink, but now has affected the black ink. Both ink cartridges are relatively full. It prints in a faded and sporadic manner. And the age of my A940 is also about 13 months.

[color=]I have this exact problem with my A940! Top it off it will not scan a thing for some reason, either. I have done everything you have spoke of too and with no results. I have had mine for nearly a year now. Must be a common problem. My black ink will barely print and if I want anything to print off word or something, I must first print it in any other color but black.
