The HP software CD that came with my 2605dn worked perfectly for WinXP, allowing me to install both (a) PCL6 drivers for the printer, as well as (b) HP ToolboxFX software. But this software CD is unusable under Win7.
This isn't a serious problem under win7 because the operating system already has built-in support for the hardware, so driver support for the USB-connected printer is automatic... at least on this machine which is local to the printer.
However the built-in driver support for the 2605dn does not include HP ToolboxFX, and its unique "print cleaning page" function under Troubleshooting. Of course as a USB-connected printer there's also no way to "interrogate" the printer for supplies status, etc.
I have been unable to find a Win7-installable version of HP ToolboxFX anywhere. Nor can I find usable instructions as to how to initiate the "print cleaning page" function from the printers control panel buttons, or from any other method.
I also have the printer connected as a network printer (additional printer objects, for both HP-provided PCL6 and PS "universal printing" drivers... as network printers). This allows me to access the printer from my other PC on my home LAN. It also allows me to interrogate the printer via IE/Firefox (e.g. via 192.168.0.102), to query supplies status. But the browser interface to the printer does NOT support the additional Troubleshooting features provided by HP ToolboxFX.
Ok... does anybody have a solution? Anybody gotten HP ToolboxFX installed under Win7?
If so, please provide details and specifics as to where you downloaded the software from.
